Renting a boyfried or a girlfriend?

Renting boyfriend or girlfriend for Chinese New Year reunion, how does that sound to you? I have seen this in newspapers, quite surprised to see human being rents another human being. I wonder what is the boundary between the "tenant" and "landlord"? Sad to see that money has so much power over human dignity.
